International Competition 5
The International Competition of the 20th anniversary edition of the Pragueshorts film festival presents twenty-eight films made with the involvement (thanks to international co-productions) of twenty-three countries. The participating films by new filmmakers as well as familiar names cover a range of current issues, contemporary trends, and innovative stylistic approaches. Presented in five blocks, they introduce audiences to the cinematic output of countries that only rarely make it into Czech cinemas – from Estonia and South Africa all the way to Brazil and Cambodia.
The animated film Hunting looks at a situation in which the hunter becomes the hunted. The nerve-racking American-Chinese co-production Hyena is a portrait of collective agony. In Ruletista, we visit a famous Austrian housing estate known as the “suicide neighborhood” and learn where it got its name. The original Spanish-American film Talk Me shows that sex is sometimes more than a thousand words. The Irish documentary We Beg to Differ looks at a marginalized part of society that shares a love for speed and dusty parking lots. And Sweden’s Without Kelly tells the story of parenthood at the wrong time and the inability to both connect and say goodbye.
English spoken or English subtitled screening. Suitable both for English speaking viewers and Czech viewers alike.
