Special Mention International Competition goes to the films The End of Suffering (A Proposal) and 16 December

Special Mention International Competition goes to Jacqueline Lentzou for The End of Suffering (A Proposal) and Álvaro Gago for 16 December

The End of Suffering (A Proposal)

The jury wishes to give Special Mention to a filmmaker who speaks to us with pure cinematic means. She confronts our longing for logic in an irrational world and our search and need for meaning in life, while simultaneously transporting these contemplations into our way of looking at cinema itself. She is audio-visual to the core, meta on top, and at the same time highly personal as she proposes a new vision.

16 December

„At the heart of the film to which the jury also decided to give Special Mention is a strong female character facing an extreme situation. Although it is difficult to imagine a woman farther removed from the role of victim, she becomes such a victim, a victim of a crime – one she has to deal with briskly and bravely. The film amazed the members of jury with its tight storytelling and great mise-en-scène, the evocative performance of lead actress Cris Iglesias, and its fragile but impressive final scene.“

Congratulations!
