Filip Marczewski, Jan P. Muchow, Mira Staleva, Jean-Louis Bompoint, Šimon Šafránek

Jean-Louis Bompoint, Cinematographer, France

Jean-Louis Bompoint is maverick of the film world is a cameraman, director, editor, musician and member of this year’s jury. He has been passionate about animated film since childhood – at 12 he corresponded with Norman McLaren. After leaving school, he moved to Paris and started making animated short films. His meeting with Michel Gondry was not only the start of a great friendship, but also collaboration that produced exceptional music videos, commercials and The Science of Sleep (2006). J.-L. Bompoint also worked as cameraman on Grace is Gone – this year’s Sundance Audience Award winner. He teaches film and is in charge of restoring the legendary film of Jean Vigo Atalante.

Mira Staleva, Sofia Meetings Director and Sofia IFF Program Committee Member, Bulgaria

Mira Staleva after completing her theology and psychology degree, she joined the Sofia International Film Festival, the most important film festival in Bulgaria and one of the key film events in Europe, as a program adviser, and as a Head of Sofia Meetings, the co-production platform of Sofia IFF, which is supported by the MEDIA programme and designed to promote new projects by young European filmmakers and encourage the distribution and participation of new Bulgarian and Balkan films in European film festivals. She organises workshops and courses for young filmmakers.

Filip Marczewski, Director, Poland

Filip Marczewski is a director of short films who has received more than 40 awards at international film festivals around the world. His scripted film Melodrama (2006) won an Oscar nomination at the 33rd Annual Student Academy Awards in the Honorary Foreign Film Competition. He graduated in humanities from Warsaw University and has a degree in film directing from the Polish National Film School in Lodz. In 2005 he received the Special Jury Mention at the 1st Prague Short Film Festival.

Jan P. Muchow, Musician and Producer, Czech Republic

Jan P Muchow is an award-winning composer, songwriter, music producer and occasional actor. In 1991 he founded The Ecstasy of Saint Theresa, a music group popular well beyond the Czech borders. In addition to his musical career, he also works as a producer for Anna K., Priessnitz, Kryštof, Here, Monika Načeva, Aneta Langerová, Tata Bojs and others. He played a leading role in David Ondříček’s film Whisper and composed most of the film’s music. He also composed music for the films Loners, Dream, One Hand Can’t Clap (Czech Lion for best film score), Kisses, and Grandhotel as well as for plays such as A Midsummer Night’s Dream (directed by Michal Dočekal, Divadlo Komedie), The Collector (directed by David Matásek, Divadlo v Řeznické) and The Comedy of Errors (directed by Eniko Eseny, the National Theater.)

Šimon Šafránek, Film Critic, Czech Republic

1977 born in Prague. Novelist, filmmaker, movie and music journalist, DJ, VJ, actor, poet, graphic designer. Currently works as a journalist for Instinkt magazine and directs music videos for example for Moimir Papalescu and The Nihilists.
