The destination of this year’s excursion is a country that many film fans know as the home of weird and sometimes very bizarre horror films, manga, samurai warriors or Godzilla. And even though the six Japanese films in this section, prepared in cooperation with the Tokyo Short Shorts Film Festival and Asia, draw on different traditions and genres, they still offer a hefty dose of weirdness, twisted view of everyday things and of course Yakuza. The films range from a romantic “almost musical”, crazy comedy, sweetly nostalgic story of disappearing Peking and visually fascinating meditation about the importance of ironing of a hitman to a dark, dreamy fantasy wandering the line between film noir and manga.
