International Competition 1

Fifteen films from thirteen countries that are competing in this year’s international competition do not have a lot in common. Each tackles a whole different topic using a different genre and looking for its own poetry. The diversity of narration styles and topic illustrate well why short films can present a unique experience for both the filmmakers and their audience. Short films are governed by a different set of rules than feature projects: they have a different narration rhythm, they can tackle issues that would not be suitable for a long film for various reasons, and their production is not dependent on budget returns. And because they are mostly made by emerging filmmakers, they often include features of search and a bit more cheekiness.
